Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Stephen Moret has been named president and CEO of the LSU Foundation after a national search. He will replace G. Lee Griffin, who is retiring after being at the helm of the organization since July 2011.
Moret is an LSU graduate and former student body president who holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. He has served as LED secretary under Gov. Bobby Jindal since January 2008, and has played a key role in attracting billions of dollars worth of investment to Louisiana. Since he has been with LED, the organization has secured projects that are resulting in more than 91,000 new jobs and $62 billion in capital investment. Prior to joining LED, Moret served as president and CEO of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber.
In a statement released this afternoon, Jindal credits Moret with helping to transform LED into one of the most respected state economic development agencies in America.
“We have been able to attract a wide variety of high-quality economic development projects, many of which would have seemed like remote possibilities only a few years ago,” Jindal says in the statement, adding, “I am very proud of the great job he has done for Louisiana, and I wish him the best.”
