To limit patient exposure to radiation and increase physician efficiency, The Spine Hospital of Louisiana at The NeuroMedical Center has installed a state-of-the-art X-ray system capable of providing a wide range of angiographic services.

The system—Ultimax-i FPD by Toshiba America Medical Systems—was first installed at The Spine Hospital of Louisiana in January. In a news release, the hospital says it was the first hospital in the nation to expand its clinical capabilities with the installation of Toshiba’s multipurpose X-ray system.

“The Ultimax is improving our patients’ safety by limiting radiation dose to the lowest possible amounts for the clinical application,” says Dr. R. Stephen Williams, board-certified neuroradiologist at The Spine Hospital of Louisiana, in a statement. “This technology reduces radiation without compromising image quality, and that’s huge.”

The hospital says the multipurpose system can provide detailed images of the spine but limits areas of the body from receiving unnecessary repeated exposure to radiation.

The Ultimax-i FPD accommodates up to 500 pounds and also has room for patients with wider shoulders.

“The Ultimax-i FPD has allowed them to improve their standards of care with fewer resources,” Bill Newsom, director of Toshiba’s X-ray Vascular Business Unit, says in a statement. “By putting customers first, Toshiba has designed the Ultimax-i FPD to provide hospitals with the right technology for patient care and this new landscape.”
