Seeking to expand in the Baton Rouge market, a New Roads-based bank is set to begin construction next week on a new branch on Jefferson Highway near the Stumberg extension.

Peoples Bank and Trust Co. of Pointe Coupee will break ground on the 5,000-square-foot full-service bank branch on Monday. It’s expected to open next summer.

The bank purchased the one-acre site in December, acquiring the property for $765,000. The location will be the bank’s second in the Capital Region. An existing branch is located on Wax Road in Central. It also has branches in Central and Livonia in addition to its New Roads headquarters branch.

CEO Stephen David previously told Daily Report the Baton Rouge branch is the next logical step for the bank, which already has a base of loan customers in Capital City, to expand.
