Exit Realty Keystone is now open in Baton Rouge. The office is a combination of Sharla Sossamon’s brokerage in Ascension Parish and the existing Exit Realty office. Sossamon says she was interested in Exit Realty’s business model, which puts an emphasis on mentoring. “It’s a semi-sort of a merger, but not really,” she says. “We went in to kind of beef up their operations.”

The firm has been busy selling properties in the Riverton Plantation TND, which is near Pelican Point. “They’re looking to market the properties right now, so we came in with the right timing,” Sossamon says. While this might not seem to be the best time to open a real estate firm because of the tight credit markets and housing slowdown, Sossamon says her business is operating in the black. Because of her relationships with builders in Ascension, Baker and Zachary, Sossamon says Exit has picked up listings for a number of starter homes. “Clients are still looking for properties in that $250,000 range,” she says.—Timothy Boone
