New Orleans workers are apparently the best-paid in the state. The area posted the state’s highest average weekly wage in the second quarter of 2010 at $852 and the highest average employment with 504,466, according to the Louisiana Department of Labor’s Second Quarter 2010 Employment and Wages Report. Wages in the second quarter were down from $865 in the first quarter of 2010, when an average of 504,583 people were employed per month, but up from $835 in the second quarter of 2009, when an average of 511,237 people were employed. The statewide average weekly wage in the second quarter of 2010 was $796 with an average of 1.85 million people employed, up from $762 in the first quarter of 2010 and from $753 a year ago. Workers in Catahoula Parish south of Monroe took home the lowest average at $499.
