A map of the redrawn Metro Council districts for East Baton Rouge Parish, approved by the council on Oct. 12, is now available for public view, as are the demographic statistics used to redraw district lines. Parish districts must be reapportioned every 10 years after the U.S. census count is released. The new districts reflect a population increase of 27,000 in the parish since the 2000 census. The new district map will be submitted to the Justice Department for approval. It will be effective for elections held in fall 2012. See the map here, and the demographic statistics here.
