A new startup tenant that only joined LSU’s Louisiana Business and Technology Center incubator last month is planning to launch and sell the world’s first hydrating sports mouth guard.
Called Hydra-Guard, the product allows athletes to rehydrate without having to head to the sidelines. Its developers also hope to tap into the industrial sector with the mouth guard, allowing workers who are unable to bring drinks into confined areas to stay hydrated as well.
““Hydra-Guard is an excellent example of an innovator discovering the need for a product and turning to the entrepreneurial side to create a product that can meet market needs,” LBTC Executive Director Charles D’Agostino says in a prepared release. “The resources of the LBTC at LSU Innovation Park can now help the company develop a business model that gives the company sustainability.”
LSU did not provide product details in its release today, or a timeline for the launch. The incubator will be working with Hydra-Guard to develop a business plan and distribution platform. The startup is also hoping to land contracts with multiple colleges to provide teams with the mouth guard.
