The Louisiana National Guard will showcase its new $58.4 million Armed Forces Reserve Center on GSRI Avenue Friday. Officials say it’s Louisiana’s first joint Armed Forces Reserve Center, housing Army and Marine Corps reserve units as well as National Guard units. The building and grounds include more than 157,000 square feet of training, support and administration space, says Staff Sgt. Denis B. Ricou, a National Guard spokesman. The maintenance shop alone is almost 21,000 square feet, in which work can take place on everything from vehicles to weapons, he says. The units moved from buildings around the Baton Rouge airport into the new center near LSU’s South Campus a couple of months ago.
