Even though nearly nine in 10 working adults and job seekers say they believe professional networking is beneficial to their careers, more than half—52%—admit they do “very little” or no networking. That’s according to a recent survey by the University of Phoenix School of Business, which also shows 37% of people do a “moderate amount” of networking.
The University of Phoenix says that of those who claimed they had a reason for not networking, 27% ended up losing out on a job opportunity as a result.
To promote the importance of professional networking, the University of Phoenix Baton Rouge campus is hosting a free networking symposium on Saturday at the campus, 2431 S. Acadian Thruway, Suite 110, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Organizers say the symposium will help attendees learn how to network and build relationships to achieve professional goals via a half-day series of events that includes an expert discussion, workshop and a networking mixer.
“Networking is a powerful tool that can make a significant difference in a person’s career,” says University of Phoenix Baton Rouge Campus and Academic Director Lee Melancon in a news release. “By leveraging the ideas and strategies from the workshop and networking forum, attendees will walk away with a good understanding of how to begin building their own networks.”
