The Haynesville Shale’s natural gas production in December was 0.2% lower than production in November and was 0.4% lower than production during the same month the year previous, according to new figures from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
As MarketRealist.com reports, EIA estimates that the Haynesville Shale produced 6.2 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas in its recently released Drilling Productivity Report.
According to the EIA, natural gas production at the Haynesville Shale—which is located primarily in northern Louisiana and extends into east Texas and southwest Arkansas—has risen 55% in the past eight years. In December 2007, the shale was producing about 4 billion cubic feet of natural gas daily.
The number of active rigs at the Haynesville Shale was 33 in December, unchanged from November, but down from 50 active rigs in the region in December 2014. Most of the rigs in the shale are horizontal.
From December 2007 to December 2015, additional natural gas production per rig at the Haynesville Shale rose from roughly 1.1 million cubic feet per day to about 5.3 MMcf per day. Production per rig rose by 18% last year.
