National Signing Day set for Wednesday

The nation’s top high school football players will officially begin to sign with college football teams Wednesday, which is National Signing Day. Both Alabama and Auburn are in the mix to land Top 5 recruiting classes for the second straight year, and the Crimson Tide could bring in the No. 1-rated haul. LSU is projected to have another strong recruiting class. Rivals.com has LSU with the fourth-best class of high school seniors, behind Alabama, Texas and Florida State. The Tigers have commitments from three five-star recruits: Anthony Johnson, a defensive tackle from O. Perry Walker in New Orleans; La’El Collins, an offensive lineman from Redemptorist; and Jarvis Landry, a wide receiver from Lutcher. LSU has set a self-imposed cap of 23 players this year. Scott Rabalais of The Advocate says that while the Tigers have 23 commitments so far, they may exceed that amount. LSU is in the running for Jadeveon Clowney, a defensive end from South Carolina considered by many to be the top high school senior. Clowney, who is also considering South Carolina, Alabama and Clemson, won’t announce what school he is going to until Feb. 14, which is his 18th birthday.
