While the forestry industry has taken hit after hit, the Roy O. Martin Lumber operation has managed to stay strong. Company officials told workers Thursday about a multimillion-dollar expansion to the Martco plywood plant in Chopin. The centerpiece of the $10 million project is adding a fifth dryer. The dryer will cost $6 million to install and raise the plant’s production capacity from just over 400 million square feet a year to 500 million. Construction is beginning immediately and should be finished by early spring 2010. Officials say the expanded operation should add about 40 jobs to the plant’s work force of 630.
