Naked Pizza — a New Orleans eatery that encourages customers to “eat like an ancestor” — has set an unusual goal for Friday. The all-natural pizzeria wants to make 20% of its sales that day through Twitter. To encourage orders, all of Naked Pizza’s pies will be shaped like Africa, and those who Tweet for their treat will get a free “eat like an ancestor” T-shirt with the purchase of two or more large pizzas. It’s not such a stretch. A billboard above the storefront features a large Twitter bird, inviting passersby to follow ‘NAKEDpizza’ for special deals. In a test run April 23, a similar Twitter promotion accounted for 15% of the day’s business. “People are watching,” general manager Brock Fillinger writes on the company’s web site. “Pls. help us out.” The restaurant formerly known as World’s Healthiest Pizza was featured in an Advertising Age magazine story earlier this month about local businesses successfully using Twitter as a marketing tool.
