Costco could begin construction of its $40 million big-box warehouse store in New Orleans’ Carrollton area by year’s end, with an opening scheduled for late summer of 2013, reports The Times-Picayune. The plans go before the City Council for final approval next month. While Costco signed last month a purchase agreement to acquire the former Coca-Cola bottling site on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge, New Orleans officials say their city’s new store will bring out-of-parish shoppers to the city. Company representatives have been working closely for months with council members, officials in Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s administration, city planners and neighborhood groups, the newspaper reports. All parties involved expect the planning commission to approve the project with a handful of provisos. To read more about Costco’s plans for its Crescent City store, click here.
