With a $6 million renovation of the former United Artists Citiplace theater complete, Movie Tavern announced today that it plans to begin screening films on Tuesday, offering moviegoers full-service, in-theater dining experiences.
For the Dallas-based chain, Movie Tavern Citiplace marks just the second location in Louisiana and its first in Baton Rouge. The 45,193-square-foot theater at 2610 Citiplace Drive includes 10 screens with digital projection and 3-D capabilities. Along with a full bar featuring tap brews, wine list and cocktails, Movie Tavern will offer a casual dining menu with a wide range of entrees and appetizers.
“With such a strong local film industry presence, we are thrilled to bring the Movie Tavern concept to Baton Rouge and we look forward to providing families and film fanatics with the innovative cinema experience they’ve been waiting for,” says Danny DiGiacomo, Movie Tavern director of marketing, in a prepared statement.
Movie Tavern, which has 20 locations nationwide, opened its first Louisiana theater in Covington. A third location is planned in the Juban Crossing development in Denham Springs and will include 11 screens in the 46,000-square-foot facility.
For now, Movie Tavern will be the lone theater in Baton Rouge offering full bar service and an in-theater dining experience. But it won’t have a monopoly on that market for long. An Alamo Drafthouse theater is also planned at the Rouzan development on Perkins Road. An opening date has not yet been announced.
