The LSU defense will see something on Saturday night they haven’t seen through their first three weeks of the season. West Virginia’s offense hangs on the so-called Air Raid, which at its essence is a spread of four or five wide receivers on the field and placement of the quarterback in the shotgun to enable him to pick out open receivers. The system emphasizes short passes over the run. Nearly every college football analyst in the country is hailing LSU’s defense as the best in the country, and coach Les Miles says the Tigers are ready for the Air Raid. “I think our guys are looking forward to the challenge,” Miles said earlier this week. “I think our defensive line needs to realize there’s more than just rushing the passer; there’s some certain responsibilities they have to maintain with rush lanes with a guy that’s as mobile as (quarterback Geno Smith), and they have a varied attack.”
