A new subscription box service is offering a monthly dose of Southern comfort foods to displaced Louisianans and anyone who loves Cajun foods.

The Advertiser reports Cajun Crate promises to deliver between five and seven Louisiana-made products to subscribers for about $40 per month.

In addition to goods such as coffee, beignet mix and gumbo roux, the boxes will include product histories, recipes, usage ideas and more.

“All of our boxes will be a surprise, so you won’t know what’s in it until you get it,” Tara Guidry, the founder of Cajun Crate, tells the Lafayette newspaper. “If you like something in the box, you can come back to our web store and order more of just that product.”

Guidry, 29, is a Bossier City native who moved to Acadiana to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she met her husband Brett, a Houma native. When they developed a Facebook page for Cajun Crate in February to test the market, it “spread like wildfire overnight.”

“That’s when we decided this has to be a thing,” Guidry says. “Right now, we’re trying to capture our first subscribers through our Kickstarter phase.”

You won’t find typical, souvenir-shop products inside of the Cajun Crate monthly delivery box.

“I really want to help promote local, Louisiana-owned restaurants and chefs,” Guidry says. “I’m looking to partner with people all over Louisiana to feature brands and help create recipes.”

Several small business owners representing brands such as Reve Coffee Roasters, Carmichael’s Honey, Cochon Cannery and Cajun Power have partnered with Guidry to be part of Cajun Crate.
