A vehicle fire on Interstate 10 West shut down the bridge Thursday afternoon, causing congestion in both directions.

As of publication time, all lanes of the bridge have reopened, but heavy backups remain. Traffic congestion on I-10 West runs through most of the city, to Bluebonnet Boulevard, and past Essen Lane on I-12 West. Heavy slowdowns are also reported on I-110 South, back to Capitol Access Road.

The Louisiana DOTD Transportation Management Center advised in a tweet motorists expect heavy delays and take alternate routes.
