LSU football coach Les Miles says a football scouting video the school paid a controversial talent scout $6,000 for was necessary. Miles told The Times-Picayune that he needs game film of players. An ESPN analysis of the scouting DVDs that Willie Lyles provided to LSU found they were old and of low quality. But Miles told the newspaper he disagreed with ESPN’s conclusions. “The ones I saw on Zach Mettenberger, they weren’t (worthless),” Miles told the newspaper. “I can’t tell you that I saw that it was exactly from Lyles’ database. For me, I require that the country’s covered, and I require that I can watch film and that I can see the guys we’re going to recruit. As long as that’s done, I’m pretty happy about it.” Lyles has been under investigation since it was revealed Oregon paid him $25,000 shortly after Lache Seastrunk, a highly touted running back he was tied to, committed to play for the Ducks.
