With the new FuturEBR plan zeroing in on the Government Street corridor as a keystone for the city’s redevelopment, the Mid City Merchants’ largest annual event, White Light Night, offers a celebratory slice this month of all that the burgeoning neighborhood has to offer, writes Jeff Roedel in this month’s issue of 225. On Friday, Nov. 18, from 6 to 10 p.m., the area’s art galleries, restaurants, retail stores and businesses will open their doors to thousands and lend their walls to the city’s newest artwork. A sticker proclaiming “Tax Free Art” welcomes visitors from its prime perch on the surface of the glass front door of the quaintly eclectic Mosaic Garden. Located behind Circa 1857 off Government Street, the 3,200-square-foot boutique, owned by artist Pam Steinsiek, is filled with local artwork, clothing, jewelry and vintage curiosities. “Where else can you find a fish stapler?” she asks with a short laugh. “I try not to go too trendy with everything, and just think, ‘Is this something that I would like to have?’ ” Read the full story here.
