Microsoft’s new Frontier Playbook outlines how businesses can move beyond AI experimentation and turn artificial intelligence deployments into measurable business results, including greater productivity and time savings, Inc. reports.

The guide draws on more than 100 of Microsoft’s internal AI projects across its corporate functions, commercial organization and engineering teams. It comes as enterprise AI adoption continues to expand.

The playbook identifies five priorities. Companies should start with specific business goals, such as increasing revenue per sales representative, conversion rates or customer retention and assign executives to oversee those goals. They should also redesign inefficient processes before automating them.

Microsoft says its supply chain team deployed 111 AI agents after simplifying workflows, reducing cycle times by 75% in selected workflows. Employee engagement is also critical. Microsoft found employees saw more value from AI when managers actively demonstrated how they used it.

Businesses should codify institutional knowledge, standards and risk limits into AI evaluations so systems perform according to company expectations. In addition, Microsoft recommends giving each AI agent its own identity and limited permissions, while making its actions traceable, auditable and reversible to maintain human oversight as adoption grows.
