Michaels has dropped plans to move its Baton Rouge arts and crafts store from the Hammond Aire Plaza to the Mall of Louisiana. The chain had planned to move into the empty CompUSA building this spring, and the Hammond Aire store had signs before Christmas announcing the relocation. A spokeswoman for Michaels says the chain will stay put in its current site. Todd Denton, general manager for the Mall of Louisiana, says he doesn’t know why Michael’s backed off of plans to move. The CompUSA building has been empty since early 2008, when the chain went out of business.—Timothy Boone
