The Metro Council will today consider rezoning a portion of a 2.8-acre tract of land on Government Street near the intersection of Jefferson Highway that sold earlier this month to developers who are planning to build a townhome complex on the property.
David Hebert and his father Terry Hebert are seeking to have 1.27 acres of the land they purchased for $800,000 rezoned to clear the way for Old Goodwood Crossing, a development they hope to break ground on soon.
The property at 5785 Government St., just east of Fleur De Lis Pizza, is zoned for commercial use in the front and residential use in the rear. David Hebert has said they selected the site for their development because of it proximity to popular Government Street businesses and to the Old Goodwood area.
The Heberts are planning to build 35 two-story townhomes that will likely have two bedrooms and two-and-half bathrooms as well as enclosed, attached garages.
Also at today’s meeting, the Metro Council will discuss references to “cluster subdivisions” in the the city-parish ordinance, which have been criticized by some as being too vague. The Planning Commission last month voted to strike all references to “cluster subdivisions” from the ordinance.
The Metro Council meets at 4 p.m. today for its zoning meeting. The meeting will take place at on the third floor of City Hall, 222 St. Louis St.
