The results of a detailed study on the feasibility of independent school districts in the Capital Region conducted by LSU economist Jim Richardson and LSU visiting researcher Roy Heidelberg will be presented on Wednesday, Aug. 15. Richardson and Heidelberg will discuss their findings at a 1:30 p.m. meeting at the offices of BRAF, 402 N. Fourth St. The analysis was commissioned by BRAC and BRAF earlier this year, when a breakaway school district in Baton Rouge was being debated at the Capitol during the legislative session. The district ultimately did not get the legislative support it needed, but those pushing for it vowed to continue fighting for its creation. At the time the district was being debated, BRAC said it could not publicly support it because it did not have a sufficient study of the proposed district, and announced it would commission Richardson to undertake an analysis.
