LSU student Todd Mashburn took home $10,000 of a total $25,000 awarded during the recent fourth-annual LSU Student Incubator Venture Challenge for his pitch about a wind-resistant party game called MashBall that he’s trying to bring to market.
A total of six student businesses, four finalists and two “audience choice” startups won a share of the $25,000 during the pitch competition, which was held on Thursday. LSU released details on the winners and their prizes this afternoon.
Aside from Mashburn, other finalists who won money during the pitch competition were:
- United Aerial, an on-site monitoring company focused on the emerging technology of high temporal and spatial resolution aerial data collection through the use lightweight UAVs. Total winnings: $7,000.
- Impossible Innovations, which is one of less than 30 veterinary prosthetics companies in the world. Total winnings: $4,500.
- Daniel Outdoors, a designer and manufacturer of hunting equipment, including deer stands, buck brackets, game camera stands and squirrel skinners. Total winnings: $2,000.
The four finalists were among 17 total LSU student-led teams that pitched their business ideas at the event. A panel of 17 judges identified the finalists and then evaluated their presentations.
