More than a year after Mary Bird Perkins-Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center held an open house to unveil changes resulting from its $23 million renovation and expansion project, the cancer center is undergoing additional changes to grow and adapt to patients’ needs.

Permits have been pulled to renovate an existing 17,147-square-foot medical office building at 4950 Essen Lane.

Mary Bird Perkins-OLOL spokesman Scott Miller says the renovations are a continuation of the $23 million project, much of which was completed last year. Key projects underway include renovations to a conference room space and clinical research office, relocating the palliative and supportive care clinic, and the creation of a new tenant suite for a specialty pharmacy.

The majority of the current renovations will be completed by the end of this year, while one project will be finished in March, says Mary Bird Perkins-OLOL Administrator Linda Lee.

“Our cancer program is growing rapidly,” Lee says. “These changes that you’re reading about are in response to a growing program.”

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center-OLOL sees more than 3,000 patients per year, Lee says. The center began its renovation and expansion project in 2013.
