Louisiana Democrats’ top hope for a challenger to run against Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal says he is not getting in the race. State Sen. Rob Marionneaux, D-Livonia, announced today, “This is not the time” to run for governor. That leaves middle school teacher Tara Hollis as the only announced Democrat running in the Oct. 22 election against Jindal. Hollis is a little-known candidate from Haynesville who had less than $1,000 on hand in her latest campaign finance report. By comparison, Jindal had $9 million for his campaign. Democratic leaders had been trying to woo Marionneaux, a lawyer who is term-limited in the Senate, to get in the governor’s race. But he had expressed concerns about how running for the office would affect his family and whether he could raise enough money for the campaign. Qualifying for the fall elections begins Tuesday.
