Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport Director Anthony Marino denies rumors that he is considering stepping down from his post. “I’m working on some issues right now, though it’s coming eventually,” Marino says. “I’m not going to leave the airport in a lurch. … We have several things going on that are good for the airport, and I want to see them happen.” Marino did not say when exactly he would reconsider stepping down.
Marino has been with the airport for 36 years and has been director since 1995. He is considered part-time because he completed the DROP program in 1999, and is thus officially retired. DROP is a program that allows public sector employees to continue working part-time while drawing a pension. Despite his part-time status, Marino has said he often puts in more than 50 hours a week at the airport. —Ian McGibboney
