Manssor Arbabsiar, the man charged Tuesday in a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States, has ties to the Baton Rouge area and is a 1984 graduate of Southern University, KATC-TV reports. According to Southern University spokesman Ed Pratt, Arbabsiar attended Southern University for one school year “from fall 1983 to spring 1984” and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. Arbabsiar has admitted his role in a $1.5 million plot to kill the ambassador at a Capitol Hill restaurant, according to authorities. President Barack Obama’s administration has accused agents of the Iranian government of being involved in the plot. Arbabsiar is being held without bond and hasn’t entered a plea.
