U.S. Sen. David Vitter capped off his efforts to establish a Republican majority in the Louisiana Legislature last month, says John Maginnis. Vitter’s Louisiana Committee for a Republican Majority and the state GOP helped push Rep. Jonathan Perry to a win in a special state Senate race in Acadiana. Vitter is now “the benefactor of a new class of Republican state legislators” and poised to put up a slate of supporters to run for the Republican State Central Committee. “If successful, Vitter would be in the driver’s seat of the busload of delegates he would lead to the Republican National Convention next year,” Maginnis says. “That would be the final vindication for him, to be hailed as Louisiana’s most powerful politician and the undisputed leader of the state Republican Party, for a term unlimited.” Read the full column here.
