By all indications, Gov. Bobby Jindal won’t run for president in 2012, choosing instead to concentrate on getting re-elected to a second term. But another man once elected governor of Louisiana may be a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination instead, says John Maginnis. Former Gov. Buddy Roemer says he’s certainly interested in running, but he’s not making an announcement. If Roemer decides to run, he’ll find himself in a wide but not deep field of Republican candidates. “It figures to be some crowded stages at the nationally televised candidate forums in the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary early next year. The initial and formidable challenge for Roemer would be to get onstage with them. But, from there, distinguishing himself from the rest might not be as hard,” Maginnis says.
