(Editor’s Note: This story has been revised from a previous version to correct the spelling of the shop’s name and to clarify that it is not a consignment store but a reseller. Daily Report regrets the error.)
A high-end children’s clothing reseller in the Perkins Road overpass area is under partially new ownership and has changed its name.
The new store, Lulu and Bean, opened at 2935 Perkins Road in the space previously occupied by Ollie-Oop and, before that, Tres Bien Yoga. Lulu and Bean owner Lori DeBenedetto-Webb was a part owner in Ollie-Oop and says the store, which opened in early April 2015, was doing well. But she and her former business partner parted ways earlier this year and closed the shop. DeBenedetto-Webb opened the new shop in the same location.
Among the most significant changes to the store is the new business model. Lulu and Bean pays sellers upfront for their clothes, rather than after the clothes have sold. Though the store assumes more risk that way, DeBenedetto-Webb says it gives her more control over inventory and pricing.
“If things don’t move I can mark them down,” she says. “It’s just a much better way for me to do business.”
In addition to high-end children’s clothing and shoes, Lulu and Bean sells new toys and gifts, the majority of which are eco-friendly. The store is also home to a thriving monogram business.
“That’s a big part of what we do and I carry a large variety of monogrammable items in the store,” she says. “Or people can bring in stuff from the outside.”
