LSU will show off 15 patents issued to university researchers for breakthrough inventions and research at the fourth annual Inventorship Showcase taking place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lod Cook Alumni Center.
LSU inventors received patents for inventions that will improve cancer treatment, prolong cell phone battery life and eliminate a disease in horses, among other things. The patents were awarded between July 1, 2016, and June 30, 2017, and have the potential to improve lives.
“Obtaining a patent is no small feat,” Andrew Maas, director of the LSU Office of Innovation & Technology Commercialization, says in a statement. “It requires a significant amount of time, effort and determination to bring an idea to fruition.”
Besides recognizing and honoring local inventors at Wednesday’s showcase, the Office of Innovation & Technology Commercialization also will bestow the Excellence in Innovation award to the E. J. Ourso College of Business for its efforts in creating the Stephenson Department of Entrepreneurship & Information Systems. The department launched a new bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship this academic year.
The program is open to students pursuing a concurrent degree in any LSU college. Currently, 12 students are combining their entrepreneurship degree with engineering, Spanish, music, business and textiles, apparel and merchandising.
The Inventorship Showcase is open to the public and business community. Read more about the patents recognized at this year’s showcase.
