LSU has hired Coleman Partners Architects to renovate a 12-room boutique on-campus hotel, says Jason Tolliver, director of auxiliary services and the student union for the university. The hotel is tied to the former Faculty Club, which has been rebranded as The Club at LSU Union Square, with hopes of attracting more customers from beyond the university community. Tolliver says the hotel, essentially a bed-and-breakfast, was outdated and was closed a few years ago. But even in its old condition, he says it was always booked on game-day weekends. “We know the demand is there to reopen it and, we believe, to sustain it 12 months out of the year,” he says. Tolliver did not mention the anticipated cost of the project, but did say external donors have contributed. LSU is working to make Union Square a center of campus life for students, employees and visitors. A recently opened parking garage with room for 750 vehicles, including spots for the general public, is part of that plan. —David Jacobs
