LSU’s law school climbed 13 points in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings of the country’s graduate schools, released today. The Paul M. Hebert Law Center is in 75th place among U.S. law schools for 2010, compared to 88th in last year’s rankings. Chancellor Jack Weiss says the jump in rankings is proof that “we are on the right path,” though he worries about the effect of a proposed 15% cut in state funding for 2009-10, which would force the elimination of programs and staff.
While he’s happy about the latest rankings, Weiss notes that such metrics are volatile. “The U.S. News rankings are notoriously unpredictable and are, in part, very subjective,” he says. “Every law school dean holds his breath in April until the rankings are announced.”
