The LSU Law Center continues to have the highest bar passage rates among all of Louisiana law schools.
Roughly 77.9% of the 140 LSU Law Center applicants who took the exam in July passed, according to the Committee on Bar Admissions of the Supreme Court of Louisiana. Loyola University in New Orleans had the second best passage rate, at about 73.8%, followed by Tulane at 71.4%. Southern University Law School had the lowest passage rate, with 47.4% of its 153 applicants passing.
Passage of the bar is required to practice law in Louisiana. Statewide, approximately 64.9% the 616 applicants who took the exam in July passed. Last year, the percentage of Louisiana test takers passing the exam plummeted to 62%, down sharply from the 70% of Louisiana law students who passed the exam in 2014. LSU’s passage rate this year is essentially unchanged from a year ago, when 78% passed.
“We are very proud of our graduates and their performance on the bar exam. It is a testament to their hard work, and we congratulate them,” says LSU Law Dean Thomas Galligan in a prepared statement. “It is also a validation of the engaged teaching and support our faculty and staff provide to our students.”
