LSU launches sport administration degree

This week, LSU begins the soft launch of its new bachelor of science degree in sport administration, which begins officially this fall. The College of Education/Department of Kinesiology added the curriculum based on both growing demand and an explosion of similar academic programs nationwide. Assistant Chair Katherine F. Hill said students can specialize in one of two concentrations, Sport Commerce, which prepares them for the financial, legal and management end of sports, or Sport Leadership, which focuses on events and human resources. Three new faculty members have been hired. Hill expects 400 students will ultimately enroll, and based on current traffic in the sector, she expects high job placement. “We think we’re really going to satisfy a niche,” she says. – Maggie Heyn Richardson
