An LSU search committee has scheduled public interviews on campus with four candidates over the coming weeks as it continues to seek a replacement for former Executive Vice President and Provost Stuart Bell, who left LSU this summer to take over as president of the University of Alabama.

Among the four candidates is Richard Koubek, who has been with LSU as the College of Engineering dean for the past six years and is currently serving as interim executive vice president and provost. Koubek will interview on Thursday, Nov. 5.

All of the other three candidates are from outside Louisiana. They include Michele Wheatly, a professor of biology at West Virginia University, where she served as provost from 2009 to 2014. Wheatly will interview on Tuesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, Nov. 10, John Valery White will interview. He is currently strategic advisor to the president of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he is also a law professor. White is not unfamiliar with LSU, having been a professor at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center on campus for 15 years through 2007.

Murray Gibson, a professor of physics at Northeastern University—as well as the founding dean of that university’s College of Science—will be the last of the candidates to interview, with his open forum slated for Thursday, Nov. 12.

“Candidates will speak at an open forum on campus as part of the interview process. All members of the campus community are invited to attend these open presentations,” says the search committee in a prepared release. “There will be an online survey made available to provide feedback on the candidates to the campus administration and search committee. We encourage your participation in this process.”
