Scott Woodward, a Baton Rouge native, LSU alum and the university’s director of external affairs from 2000 to 2004, will resign as athletic director of University of Washington to take the same job at Texas A&M, The Seattle Times reports.
Woodward has been the athletic director at UW since January 2008. At Texas A&M, he will be reunited with former UW president Michael K. Young, who took over as the Texas A&M president last May.
Woodward was hired at UW by Mark Emmert, the former LSU chancellor and current NCAA president. Woodward advised Emmert on policy and government appropriations while he was at LSU, acting as the liaison between the university and government and corporate officials. At LSU, Woodward also served as the chancellor’s representative to the athletic department.
Woodward regularly vacations back home in Louisiana, and one source close to him tells The Seattle Times that he has been exploring opportunities to return to the South for more than a year.
Prior to moving into higher education, Woodward founded a government and public relations firm in Baton Rouge, providing strategic policy direction to Fortune 500 corporations, including clients in the education, insurance and oil industries. He also served on the board of directors of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. Before starting his consulting firm, Woodward was a political consultant and legislative liaison for former Gov. Buddy Roemer.
