LSU is getting $12.5 million from the U.S. Department of Energy to establish an Energy Frontier Research Center. This is one of 46 EFRCs established at universities and national laboratories to pursue advanced research in energy. Along with the federal money, which will be paid over five years, the center will get $940,000 from the Board of Regents. LSU says the EFRC will tap into the Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices to develop new materials to provide clean energy.
