The LSU College of Engineering has risen to No. 82 in the U.S. News & World Report‘s 2012 edition of Best Colleges, up from 94th last year. Out of 363 engineering schools ranked nationally, LSU’s is ranked fifth among SEC undergraduate engineering programs, trailing Florida, Vanderbilt, Auburn and Tennessee. LSU’s program took top ranking in the state, and scored better than Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi State in the region. Meanwhile, in the newly released 2011 edition of the American Society of Engineering Education’s Profiles of Engineering & Engineering Technology Colleges, LSU rose four spots to 34th nationally in the number of undergraduate degrees granted. That places it among the top 10% in the nation, of 344 schools reporting. The university rose three spots to 24th nationally in the number of undergraduate students enrolled, reflecting a 27% increase in enrollment over the past three years. It also ranked 17th nationally in the number of engineering master’s degrees awarded to women. Overall, LSU ranked in a four-way tie for the 128th spot on the Best Colleges list, down from 124th last year. LSU ranks 63rd when compared to public universities only.
