LSU drops first-round game to Northwestern

LSU squandered a nine-point halftime lead, losing to Northwestern 88-82 on Thursday in the first round of the Charleston (S.C.) Classic. The Tigers, who led 41-32 at halftime, were outscored 56-41 in the second half. LSU plays Western Kentucky in a second-round game at noon Friday. Johnny O’Bryant came off the bench to score 21 points and grab eight rebounds for the Tigers (1-2), who lost their second straight game after a season-opening victory over Nicholls State. Andre Stringer added 15 points, Anthony Hickey 11 and Justin Hamilton 10 as LSU shot 49% from the field (27 of 55) and 85% from the free-throw line (22 of 26). John Shurna had 37 points and seven rebounds for the Big Ten-member Wildcats (2-0). Drew Crawford added 17 points and nine rebounds, and Dave Sobolewski 10 points as Northwestern shot 44% from the field (26 of 59) and 86% from the line (24 of 28).
