Five Latin American entrepreneurs will travel to Baton Rouge to learn how to do business in America at the Louisiana Business & Technology Center at LSU.

LSU announced this morning the LBTC has been selected to participate in a mentoring program funded by the United States Agency for International Development. Five entrepreneurs will be selected over the coming month to participate in the program at LSU’s incubator.

“The entrepreneurs selected to visit Louisiana are from the food and agriculture industries,” says LBTC Executive Director Charlie D’Agostino in a prepared release. “This is a perfect fit, since Louisiana is known for fine cuisine, and we have a world-class food incubator at the LSU AgCenter that will participate with us, along with local chefs and food production companies.”

The entrepreneurs—who are coming from Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru—will arrive in Baton Rouge in February and will spend two weeks here, during which they’ll spend time at the LBTC, visit with local businesses and participate in workshops with local experts. They’ll then spend the next three months working in a virtual mentoring program. The goal of the program is to provide the foreign entrepreneurs an understanding of U.S. and local business environments, as well as the legal and tax requirements for conducting business here.

“The entrepreneurs who will be visiting LSU for the training have already established themselves as successful businesspeople in their home countries,” says D’Agostino. “The LBTC staff, LSU faculty and local business leaders will introduce these visitors to business operations in the U.S., as well as developing contacts to facilitate their investments and tap into the U.S. markets.” —Steve Sanoski
