Metro Councilmember and Mayor Pro Tem Chandler Loupe has decided against a mayoral run.

Though Loupe said as recently as last week that he was considering throwing his hat into the increasingly crowded field, he announced today that after a period of reflection with his family he has decided instead to seek reelection to his District 3 seat, which he has held since 2008.

“While the opportunity of serving the entire parish as mayor president and the outpouring of support to do so was sincerely a blessing, sometime we must find our happiness where we are,” Loupe says. “Having the opportunity to serve the families I have been blessed to help and the opportunity to finish projects I have started with the opportunity to serve an additional four years is where my happiness lies.”

Two local elected officials have officially announced their intention to run: former state Sen. Sharon Weston Broome, a Democrat, and Metro Councilmember John Delgado, a Republican. Among those who say they are interested in the race are state Sen. Bodi White, realtor Darryl Gissel, businessman Marty Maley, activist Sarah Holliday-James and former Baton Rouge Police Chief Jeff LeDuff. The race is Nov. 8.
