Louisiana continues to be No. 2 in the nation for worker safety, as a recent federal survey shows the rate of work-related injuries and illness among the state’s private sector employees continued to improve in 2015.

Citing a new Bureau of Labor Statistics survey, the Louisiana Workforce Commission says Louisiana’s rate for worker safety improved to 1.9 incidents per 100 full-time workers last year—the best level in 14 years. That’s down from 2 in 2014.

The 2015 national average was 3.

“Louisiana consistently ranks as one of the best in the nation for worker safety, an amazing statistic given the prevalence of high-risk occupations in our state,” says Ava Dejoie, LWC executive director, in a prepared statement. “While I congratulate our Office of Workers’ Compensation Administration and our OSHA consultation team for their outstanding work, we recognize that the efforts to improve safety continue until we reach zero incidents.”

Louisiana only trailed the District of Columbia in the ranking for nonfatal workplace related injuries and illness. The rate of work-related injuries and illnesses in Louisiana improved across multiple industry sectors.
