Louisiana’s unemployment rate edged up in May. The U.S. Labor Department says the latest seasonally adjusted jobless rate in the state was 8.2%, up from 8.1% in April. In May 2010, the unemployment rate stood at 7.3% statewide. The national rate for May was 9.1%. Louisiana was among 13 states and the District of Columbia that recorded increases last month. The Labor Department says 24 states saw declines in their jobless rates, while 13 states were unchanged.
