The number of people killed on Louisiana roadways fell by 8.7%, less than the decline reported nationally. According to a study from the Governors Highway Safety Association, which is made up of highway safety offices from every state and the District of Columbia, fatal traffic incidents were down 10.7%. GHSA credited the drop to a reduction in drivers because of high fuel prices and the national economic slump. Forty states and the District of Columbia reported a decline in traffic fatalities. Massachusetts had the biggest drop, with a reported 28.5% decrease. See the full report here.
