The good news is that it’s not you, Louisiana dads. As The Advertiser reports, it’s where you live, not who you are.
The bad news, according to a piece by financial news website WalletHub.com, is Louisiana ranks 47th overall in Best & Worst States for Working Dads. Back to good news: The Pelican State ranks, in descending order, above West Virginia, Arkansas, Nevada and Mississippi.
All this information comes just in time for Father’s Day, which is Sunday.
To identify the best and worst states for working dads, WalletHub says it analyzed the various factors that affect paternal roles in the 50 states and the District of Columbia by examining four key dimensions, including economic & social well-being, health, work-life balance and child care.
In other categories, Louisiana is ranked No. 1 in lowest child care costs adjusted for median income for families with dad present; No. 49 in lowest men’s life expectancy at birth; and No. 48 in highest average hours worked per day among males.
Minnesota led the pack, ranking in the top three in both work-life balance and economic and social well-being. In fact, the top five are all chillier states—Minnesota was followed by New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont and New Jersey.
Data used to create these rankings were obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Center for Education Statistics, the National Partnership for Women & Families, the American Urological Association, the Social Science Research Council, Child Care Aware and WalletHub research.
