State Education Superintendent Paul Pastorek says there was “exceptional growth” in student performance this year on standardized tests given in Louisiana public schools. Pastorek reports today that in the 30 different types of tests given this year, there was improvement in 28. “Today’s news is a strong indication that we are closer to our pursuit of a better future for Louisiana’s next generation and for our state,” he says. Pastorek says the only dip in performance was in fourth-grade math LEAP tests. Also, he says there was no improvement in performance in 11th-grade social studies in the GEE. The number of fourth-grade students who failed to meet the minimum standards during spring testing declined from 24% in 2008 to 23% in 2009, while the number of eighth-grade students failing the test dropped from 31% in 2008 to 28%. School and district level test data will be released later this week.
