The Louisiana Lottery’s 2009 fiscal-year revenue topped $381.1 million, its highest level since 1993 and exceeding the state’s expectations by $12.2 million. The Lottery also transferred $135.9 million earmarked for public education. Much of the Lottery’s success can be attributed to scratch-off game sales, which hit a 15-year record. The Lottery did not provide specific numbers.

“Despite economic uncertainty, our games have maintained popularity because they hold up to their brand promise, giving players a reason to smile for just a dollar,” Lottery President Rose Hudson says. “Players can find a little something for everyone in our scratch-off product line. This past year, we focused on giving players added value and more bang for their lottery buck, through seasonal promotions and second-chance drawings.”
